Marisa "Jolie" Mead #29
Jolie is a new member to our ZG family in 2010. She came to ZG with excellent pedigree - three years with UCLA BLU. Frisbee is her true calling, but Jolie has had quite a journey through competitions and sports over her 22 years of life to find it. On her 1st birthday in 1989, little Marisa (she wasn't known as Jolie back then) won the Bay Area Beautiful Baby Pageant in the "All Around" category. She came in 2nd in the swimsuit category to baby Alina (coincidentally also a ZG player!), but came in 1st in the Talent and Eating categories to win the overall title. It was a sign. We knew then, that she was destined for greatness.
As soon as she could hold a pen, little Marisa began twirling. A new talent was discovered! The pen turned into a baton, and soon her family was sacrificing weekends and traveling all over the country to enter her into Baton Twirling Competitions. She won so many awards for twirling, her parents added a new room to their home just to keep all the trophies. At age 10, during a growth spurt, Marisa began really developing her talent to eat, and eat a lot. She loves food. She has been quoted as saying, "Kobayashi and Joey Chestnut may beat me in eating hot dogs, but I'll take them down in a Strawberry Ice Cream eating contest any day, any time. Bring it." Apparently, Marisa has trained hard to develop immunity to "brain freeze".
In high school, Marisa excelled scholastically at Burlingame High School, finishing at the top of her class, having taken 29 AP classes in every subject imaginable including Japanese, French, Economics, World History, Calculus BC, and Psychology just to name a few. Yeah, she's that wicked smart. She was voted Most Likely to Take Over The World by her senior class. In Fall 2007, Marisa's life changed forever. She found her true calling. She started playing ultimate frisbee her 2nd year at UCLA and found that her ability to look damn cute, twirl things, eat a lot, and take college level classes combined perfectly to make her the "ultimate" ultimate player. Her BLU teammates nicknamed her "Jolie" and she hasn't looked back since.
